Mountain Finance

A small team that reads the statements itself.

Mountain Finance arranges funding for established small businesses. This page says what that means in practice, what we will and will not do with your file, and how to tell whether we are the right call.

What we are

We arrange working capital. On most files the money itself comes from one of the funding partners we work with; our job is to read your figures properly, put the file in front of the partner it fits, and make sure the terms come back to you written out in full. We are paid by the funding partner when a deal goes ahead, which is why there is no fee to apply and no charge for finding out where you stand.

We are not a bank, and we do not pretend to be one. A bank looks at a business through its credit file and its collateral. We look at it through its bank statements: what comes in, how steadily, and what is already going out. That is a different lens, and for a lot of businesses it is a fairer one.

How we work

One person, start to finish

The person who picks up your application is the person who reads the statements, calls you with questions, takes the offer to you and stays on the file until it is funded. You will not be handed between desks, and you will not be asked the same question twice.

The terms, written out

Every offer comes with the amount, the total to repay, the cost in dollars and the payment schedule set out in plain figures, before you agree to anything. What is on the agreement is what you signed up to. We do not quote a rate we cannot hold.

A straight answer, either way

If we can fund it, we say so. If we cannot, we say so and we say why, and we are happy to say what might change that. Often it is a few more months of trading, or an existing balance coming down.

Who we are right for

A business that has been trading for a while, typically six months or more, banks through a business account, and has money arriving every month. The owner is at least 18 and is willing to send three months of statements as PDFs. Sole proprietors, partnerships, LLCs and corporations all apply the same way, across most lines of work.

We are the wrong call for a business that has not started taking money in yet, and for anything personal. The funding is for commercial purposes only. It is not a consumer loan and cannot be used for personal, family or household expenses.

What happens to your file

  1. It arrives with a reference number, and one person picks it up.
  2. They read the statements. If something is missing, they ask for it before anything else happens.
  3. If it fits, it goes to the funding partner it fits best, and comes back with an offer written out in full, or with a reason why not.
  4. If you want the offer, you sign the funding agreement. Until then, nothing is committed.
  5. Funded. The same person is there whenever you need them again.

You can see which of those stages your file is at from the final page of your application, at any time.

Your information

Everything you enter is encrypted in transit and at rest, including the statements and the signature. It is used to assess this application and to arrange funding for it, and for nothing else. We do not sell applicant data. The privacy notice sets this out in full.

If that sounds like the right call.

Five minutes for the form, three months of statements, and an answer you can read. Applying commits you to nothing.
